Tom Selleck pays nearly 22K in water dispute settlement

Actor Tom Selleck has settled water dispute with California and agreed to pay nearly USD 22,000.
The 70-year-old "Magnum, P.I." actor has paid the amount after Calleguas Municipal Water District filed a legal complaint accusing him of having water from a fire hydrant in Thousand Oaks illegally delivered to his 60-acre estate in Hidden Valley outside the service area, reported Ace Showbiz.
"Mr Selleck did not receive any notifications prior to last week stating that he was acting outside of regulations decreed by the county," his lawyer Marty Singer stated.
"Mr Selleck previously paid for all the water that he utilized, which the Calleguas Municipal Water District acknowledged had not been stolen."

The water district argues that the delivery, whether it was paid or not, remained illegal because it was made outside legal boundaries.
Thomas Slosson, president of the district, said, "Residents and businesses within the district - the rightful users of district water - paid for the construction, maintenance and operation of the public works necessary to meet their water needs, not those of other landowners outside Calleguas' legal boundaries."
The settlement money, an exact amount of USD 21,685.55, from Selleck is to cover the bill of a private investigator hired by the district to probe into the case.
It's revealed that the water deliveries to his ranch happened numerous times between 2013 and 2015 during an ongoing drought that has resulted in water cutbacks in the area. As part of the settlement, Selleck is banned from drawing water from the district to supply his ranch.
