State-run aluminium major Nalco's consistent performance in terms of production, productivity and profitability is commendable despite a meltdown in global markets, Union Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said today.
"Nalco has been able to put up an impressive show both in production and profitability despite global economic slowdown and sluggish market situation," Tomar said during the 36th Foundation Day Celebrations of the company at Angul and Bhubaneswar.
Nalco has already got Utkal D and E Coal Blocks from the Centre in the vicinity of its thermal power plant at Angul in Odisha, and the aluminium major would also get the Pottangi Bauxite mines near its refinery at Damanjodi, having 70 million tonnes reserves, Tomar said.
With this, Nalco is all set to be bracketed among the top global players, he added.
A number of activities and projects have been undertaken by Nalco as part of its corporate social responsibility, which were both innovative and inclusive, Tomar said while launching 'Nalco ki Ladli', a scheme to promote meritorious girl students from BPL families, under Centre's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' programme.
Besides, he laid the foundation stone of Nalco Modern Eye Hospital.
Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and Nalco CMD Tapan Kumar Chand were also present at the event.
