"Its my personal view, far too much of politics being done from all sides...Pranab babu is a good candidate," the Trinamool MP, who was forced to resign as Railway Minister by party chief Mamata Banerjee after presenting the Rail Budget, said.

Trivedi felt that politics over presidential poll should be kept aside as the President's position is not a political position but a constitutional one and whoever becomes the President ceases to become a political figure.

"Now we should just close this chapter, go ahead and...There is so much to do with the economy of the country, of the state of Bengal," he told NDTV.

While Mamata is campaigning for A P J Abdul Kalam for the post of President, the Congress-led UPA has nominated Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for the post.

Trivedi also refused to comment about the happenings in his party on the issue, saying "I am not privy to what they (the party) thinks because I am not called for a party meeting at all".
