The UPA government won the approval of Parliament to allow FDI in multi-brand retail with a motion against it being defeated in Rajya Sabha, as the BSP voted in favour of UPA. As many as 123 members voted against the motion while 109 voted for it bafter a two-day debate during which the Opposition attacked the proposal to allow 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, while the government strongly justified it saying it was in the best interest of the country
   
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says India would like to see a "strong, stable and prosperous" Pakistan and that he was happy to see democracy flourish over there as he received a Parliamentary delegation from that country. Singh also told the delegation led by Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari that closer relations between parliaments in the two countries was necessary for strengthening bilateral relations.
   
New Delhi: The Cauvery Monitoring Committee asks Karnataka to provide Tamil Nadu with 12 TMC of Cauvery water during December even as it asked both the states to be "more efficient" in using available water.
