Top-flight national athletics competitions return to Delhi

New Delhi will host the third leg of the Indian Grand Prix on April 13 followed by the Federation Cup Senior Athletics championships from April 23 to 26.

The first two legs of the Indian Grand Prix will be held at Panchkula (March 31) and Ludhiana (April 6), according to the Athletics Federation of India calendar.

The season will commence with the inaugural National Open Race Walking competition at Patiala on February 14 and 15. The Indian team for Asian Race Walking championships at Nomi City in Japan on March 10 is likely to be selected from the event.

The National Inter-State Senior Championships will be held in Chennai (June 4-7) and it will serve as the 'final trials' for Indian aspirants for Asian Championships scheduled to be held at the same city (from July 3 to 7).

Chennai will also host the third leg of Asian Grand Prix series on May 16, after Bangkok (May 8) and Colombo (May 12).

Ranchi will be venue for Open Nationals from September 7-10 while Karnataka once again took the responsibility of conducting Junior Nationals from October 15-19 in either Shimoga or Bangalore.

National Youth (U-18) Championships is slated to be held in Guntur or Hyderabad from May 18 to 20 to pick the athletes who would represent the country at World Youth Championships (at Donetsk, Ukraine from July 10 to 14) and the Asian Youth Games (at Nanjing in China from August 16-24).

Zonal competitions have been allotted to Aligarh (North, Aug 4-6), Ranchi (East, Aug 17-19), Chennai (South, Aug 21-23) and Gujarat (West, Aug 25-27) before the Inter-Zonal junior Athletics Championships at Kochi from September 22 to 24.

Uttar Pradesh Athletics Association will organise the National Inter-District Athletics meet in Allahabad or Lucknow from November 3-5 while West Bengal will play host to the last competition of season -- National Cross country Championships -- at New Jalpaiguri on December 22.
