Torrential rains in West Bengal, MeT warns of more

Torrential showers pounded parts of West Bengal today with Jalpaiguri recording 128.7 mm of rains, even as the monsoon remained active in most of the parts of the country.
Downpours lashed several places in Himachal Pradesh, which is battling with rain-induced landslides, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
West Bengal, the Gangetic part of which reeled under "man-made" floods recently, has been recording heavy rains for two days now.
The local MeT office said the Sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar were staring at a deluge as "heavy to very heavy rains are likely to lash the region over the next three days".

The weatherman has also warned of extremely heavy rain at some places in Coochbehar and Alipurduar till Friday and in all the five districts on Saturday and Sunday.
Jalpaiguri gauged 128.7 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am, the highest in the state during the period. Coochbehar recorded 106.3 mm of precipitation.

Meanwhile, a 12-year-old girl was killed and three others injured when a house collapsed due to rains at Uttar Pradesh's Khajana village. The incident happened last evening.
The MeT office in Bhubaneswar said heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at one or two places over north interior Odisha and at one or two places over the south-coastal region.

Moderate to heavy rains occurred in some parts of Himachal Pradesh while the monsoon remained subdued in most parts of the state.
The road clearance work picked up pace but 132 roads were still blocked due to landslides.
Dalhousie was the wettest in the state with 127 mm of rain, Ghumarwin recorded 96 mm of precipitation, Gohar 67 mm, Paonta Sahib 66 mm, Pandoh 51 mm, Dharamsala 42 mm, Nahan 3Gaggal 20 mm, Hamirpur 14 mm and Nijahi 13 mm.
Rainfall across Bihar brought down the temperatures.
The weatherman has predicted "extremely heavy rain" at some places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

"Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and western Uttar Pradesh," the MeT Department said.
