23-year-old Sanchita Toto today earned the distinction of becoming the first woman honours graduate among the endangered Toto tribe in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district.
Sanchita graduated from Prasanna Deb Women's College in English honours under the North Bengal University with 47 per cent marks, varsity authorities said here.
Rita Toto is the first woman graduate from the tribe but she had cleared her 2010 exams in pass course.
The Totos, a primitive and isolated tribal group residing in a small enclave called Totopara, number less than 1,500.
A student of Alipurduar Girls School, Sanchita now wants to be a West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) official.
"I will do my masters in English now in correspondence and also start preparing for the WBCS examination," said the girl.
Her father Bhakta Toto was the first in the tribe to pass class ten exams.
