Kerala Human Rights Commission today directed the Home Secretary and state police chief to enquire into the allegations of laxity in the case relating to the disappearance of Lithuanian woman tourist from Kovalam, from where her body was recovered a few days ago.
They were also directed to file a report to the commission within four weeks.
The directions in this regard were issued by Commission Acting chairperson P Mohanadas on a petition by a human rights activist.
According to the complainant, if police had launched a proper investigation in the crucial 24 hours of the woman's disappearance on March 14, she would not have met this fate. """" Meanwhile, Kerala police, which had received flak from the family of the tourist for not conducting proper probe, said in a statement that they had done whatever possible to trace the tourist, Liga.
Efforts are on now to ascertain the cause of her death.

The highly decomposed body of Liga, with head severed, was found from a deserted mangrove near Kovalam two days ago.
While her family has recognised the body from her hair and clothes, DNA results are awaited to fully confirm if the body was indeed that of Liga.
Thirty three-year-old Liga who had come for Ayurvedic treatment for depression, went missing from Kovalam on March 14.
