Trade disputes involving China is on the rise with the Communist trading giant being embroiled in 80 such cases this year, a jump of 12 per cent, the Commerce Ministry said here today.
The cases involved 18 different countries and regions, said ministry spokesman Yao Jian.
Yao said the recently-concluded solar panel dispute with the European Union (EU) indicates that negotiation is the main tool to resolve future cases.
He said the 121 Chinese solar panel makers involved in the price undertaking deal with the EU reached in July accounted for 79 per cent of the country's solar panel exports to Europe.
Last week, the EU decided to impose punitive tariffs on some Chinese solar exporters, but companies signing the deal will continue to export their products to the EU, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Chinese solar panel makers should seize this opportunity to boost manufacturing ability and profitability, instead of following the old practise of excessive resource consumption and underselling, Yao said.
