Trade union leaders meet Delhi labour minister

Representatives of the All-India General Mazdoor Trade Union and All-India Trade Union Congress today met Delhi Labour Minister Girish Soni and complained that nearly 1,000 licences had been issued by the labour department to contractors for engaging labourers on contract basis for jobs which were otherwise of a permanent nature.
After hearing the trade union representatives, Soni asked the Labour Commissioner to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on the matter.
Soni further directed that till such time, the renewal of the licences may be kept in abeyance if that was permissible under law.
