Major national level trade unions like AITUC, INTUC, CITUC, IFTU, TUCC and HMS today jointly announced here that they would oppose amendments made to the labour laws by the Centre and organise protests from April 20 to May 20 across the state of Andhra Pradesh.
In their joint press meet here, AITUC State General Secretary G Obuleshu said that the union government has undemocratically amended labour laws by suppressing rights of the labour class in order to please corporates and foreign multinationals.
He said that the states have also begun following the Centre in amending labour laws, adding that Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments amended laws after instructions from the Centre.
He said that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in the state also amended labour laws on March 27 in the AP assembly through a simple voice vote.
He said that the AP assembly amended the 1947 Industrial Disputes Act, 1948 Factories Act, 1926 Labour Registration Act and the Labour Welfare Act in a single session without any discussion whatsoever.
