Traders in the Kashmir Valley today held a protest against sealing of "illegal" properties by the administration following a high court order.
Hundreds of traders, under the banner of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), held a demonstration in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk, in heart of Srinagar city.
Jammu and Kashmir High Court had recently asked Srinagar Municipal Committee to seal the structures within the city that have come up in violation of Srinagar Master Plan.
The protesters said the government should stop sealing the structures and de-seal the properties which have already been sealed.
The government should put forth a clear policy on the issue before the High Court and review the Master Plan as early as possible, said Yasin Khan, KEA president.
Khan questioned as to why the government has not taken any action against the officials who allowed the structures to be build in violation of the Master Plan at the first place.
"Why are the traders only facing the brunt? Why no action against the officials involved?" he asked.
