"Sheila Dikshit government is trying to squeeze money from people's pocket in the name of development. The recent example is tariff hike in electricity, proposed DMRC project, secret price hike proposed for water distribution and increasing luxury tax," Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said.

"If the amended VAT system is not withdrawn immediately, the traders will be compelled to call for an indefinite strike in which about 5 lakh traders of different categories will participate," he said at a meeting of traders.

Kailash Gupta Convenor of BJP Traders Cell said that VAT amendment is destructive because "for a small mistake a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed on the trader".
