The brutal attack on a woman by a head constable with a brick in posh Golf Link area of central Delhi today drew strong condemnations from various quarters with former IPS officer Kiran Bedi calling for his dismissal.
Demanding departmental inquiry, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Barkha Shukla said it is an act of shame and action should be taken against the officer.
"We will write to demand for a departmental inquiry into the case and make sure that the accused is punished under appropriate law," Shukla said, terming it "animal-like".
Terming it a "professional failure", former Delhi chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi said such person should not remain in the department.
"They should be compulsorily retired. And the department should analyse why he behaved in such a way. Training alone cannot improve them," the former BJP chief ministerial candidate for Delhi, said.
"He should be freed from the department because such persons have no objective to stay in the services," she said.
