Train derails in Assam; service disrupted

Delhi-bound Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express derailed in Assam today between Mahur and Phiding station in Lumding-Silchar hill section disrupting rail service in the area, Northeast Frontier Railway release said.
The Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express (train no. 15601) comprising 21 coaches had left Silchar at 6.30 PM yesterday for New Delhi when one pair of wheels of its luggage-cum-parcel van derailed at a place about 83 km from Lumding at round 1.50 AM. All passengers on board are safe, the release said.
Railways officials immediately started restoration work at the site and the train was taken back to New Haflong station where the passengers were provided drinking water, tea and snacks.

After the railway track was restored and cleared for
trains today, the stranded train left New Haflong for its onward journey, NEFR said in Haflong.
Meanwhile, some trains running in the Hill Section between Silchar and Lumding were cancelled following landslides and rain in the district, the sources added.
