Locals stopped a goods train this morning after finding the 3-ft-long crack on the UP line used by trains going to New Jalpaiguri from Howrah, railway officials said.
Long-distance trains using the UP line were stopped at various stations after the villagers brought the crack to the notice of railway officials at Malda Town station.
The tracks were repaired and New Jalpaiguri-bound trains resumed journey after nearly an hour, officials said.
