Train services hit after accident at unmanned level crossing

Train services were affected along the South Eastern Railway network in between Basta and Amarda Road railway stations in the afternoon today after the New Delhi-bound Nandan Kanan Express hit a van in an unmanned level crossing here.
The station manager of Balasore railway station Bhagabat Das said, "Some villagers of the area are agitating on the accident site demanding compensation and a manned level crossing there."
"The van was crossing the unmanned level crossing at about 4.30 pm when the train hit it. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, died on the spot as the van was smashed into pieces. The engine of the train also partly damaged," said another railway official.
The driver of the vehicle who died on the spot was identified as Sangram Sahu (25) of Sadanandapur village under Basta police station area, police sources said.
