Train young minds for national growth: Virbhadra to HPU

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today asked Himachal Pradesh University to train young minds in such a way that they can participate in the process of national growth.
"Unless education keeps abreast of social, economic and political changes of the present day, it ceases to have a meaning and cannot provide salvation envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi," he observed.
Chief Minister said "Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) at undergraduate level to counter 'compartmentalised' education which would go a long way in assuring employability of students."
Stressing that women education was the index of growth of any nation as it leads to their empowerment, Singh said as a result of impetus given to the education of girls in the state, they were excelling in every field.
Conventional classroom system was facing many challenges with the advent of modern technology and time has come for a shift in education system, he said.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the new building of University Information Technology (UIT) to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.20 crore at HPU campus.
HPU Vice Chancellor Professor A D N Vajpayee said it was an important step towards quality eduction and the ranking of HPU had improved from 44th to 32nd among top 50 universities of the country.
Apart from land being identified for additional campus at Ghanahatti, Prof Vajpayee said, efforts were on to develop two new campuses of HPU at Mandi and Una.
