The fire broke out suddenly when testing of transformers was going on in the Block-III and the flames engulfed the entire block soon creating panic in the unit, a BHEL spokesman said.
Over a dozen fire-tenders belonging to BHEL, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and airport took over an hour to control the blaze, that broke out in the unit at around 10 AM.
However, no casualty was reported and no one suffered injuries in the mishap, except a CISF constable who slipped while trying to douse the flames and in the process got hurt.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known nor the exact amount of loss suffered by the unit.
"After the examination by the technical team only any thing can be said about the loss suffered by the unit," the spokesman said.
A transformer whose testing was going on when fire broke out got burnt out while another one suffered minor damage, he said adding the exact figure would be known after the examination by the experts.

Madhya Pradesh urban administration and development minister Babulal Gaur reached the factory and enquired from the officials about the fire.
Senior BHEL officials, Collector Nikunj Shrivastava and other concerned officers reached the spot to supervise the fire-fighting operation.
