"The transgenders will first visit Sehore, Jabalpur, Anuppur and Sagar districts to spread awareness on cleanliness and will later cover other districts," an official release said today.
The decision in this regard was taken by former MLA Shabnam Mousi and former mayor of Sagar, Kamla Mousi (both transgenders) in a meeting with state Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava, MP Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development department Aruna Sharma said.
The Swachh Madhya Pradesh campaign was launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the state in sync with the Swacch Bharat campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
They said members from the transgender community will also raise awareness among people on the issue of open defecation.
During the meeting, the minister also informed the transgender leaders about various steps taken by the department for their welfare and also urged them to spread awareness about other social welfare schemes being implemented by the government.
