Transport official held for disproportionate assets

In a crackdown on corrupt officials, the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested an administrative official in the transport department after unearthing huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, an official said.
Special teams of the ACB raided properties of accused officer B S Krishna Kishore and his kin in Nellore, Guntur, Narsaraopet, Piduguralla, Ongole and Visakhapatnam, according to its Director General R P Thakur.
Kishore is currently serving in the Transport Commissioner's office in Vijayawada.
At least eight houses, 10 residential plots and seven pieces of agricultural land were found in the name of Kishore, his wife, father and brothers, he said in a media release.

Kishore's wife is a senior assistant in the Transport Department.
One of his brothers set up a heavy motor driving school in Narsaraopet and a plastic recycling unit near Vijayawada, the DG said.

Three lorries, used for training purpose in the school, were also found in his brother's name, he said.
Two cars, 250 grams of gold, 350 grams of silver and 1.37 lakh in cash were also confiscated. The accused officer's bank lockers were still being searched, the ACB said in a media release.
The ACB release, however, did not mention the gross value of the assets found but department officials estimate that it could be well over Rs 50 crore.
