Tribeca film festival announces Nora Ephron prize

Tribeca Film Festival is honouring the memory of late screenwriter-filmmaker Nora Ephron by creating a award on her name that will recognise a talented woman writer or director every year.
The inaugural Nora Ephron Prize, with a cash prize of USD 25, 000, will be presented to a woman writer or director with a distinctive voice which embodies the spirit and vision of the legendary filmmaker and writer.
This year, eight filmmakers are eligible for the inaugural prize at the festival which runs from April 17-28. The award will be presented at Women's Filmmaker Brunch at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 25 by Jane Rosenthal and Sally Singer.

"Nora Ephron's work influenced screenwriters, filmmakers and movie goers," said Jane Rosenthal, Co-Founder, Tribeca Film Festival.
"She was a great friend to the Festival since its inception, and I had the privilege to know her and be in absolute awe of her. She did it all brilliantly, with wit and wisdom that went straight to the heart, plus she cooked too. I am proud to honour her memory and continue her legacy with this award that I hope will inspire a new generation of women filmmakers and writers," Rosenthal said.
Ephron, best known for iconic films like 'When Harry Met Sally', 'Sleepless in Seattle' and 'Julie & Julia', died on June 26 last year following a battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, a condition with which she was diagnosed in 2006.

The author, loved for her humour and wit, had kept her illness a secret.
