Tribes allege non tribals garner their job opportunities
Press Trust of India Udhagamandalam(TN) Around 200 activists belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) today staged a demonstration claiming that their wards were deprived of Government jobs since those belonged to other community garnered the jobs reserved for STs, belonged to Primitive Tribe Groups, by producing fake certificates.
The activists, including 50 women, claimed that for the last two decades government jobs were given to those who produced fake community certificates claiming that they belonged to PTG, which originally has only six castes, including Irular, Kurumbar, Paniyars.
This has affected the livelihood of the younger generation of PTGs, they said, in a memorandum submitted to the District Collector, P Shankar.
They also accused that a committee formed under an IAS Officer to look after the welfare of PTGs was supporting those who were misusing the community name and produce fake certificate to enter into Government jobs.
They sought the Government's immediate intervention in this issue, adding that they would intensify their agitation and take it to state level if it failed to solve within a stipulated time.
