University Registrar S S Dahiya, Deans of the constituent colleges, Directors, faculty members and students present on the occasion paid floral tributes to the former prime minister.
Remembering Chaudhary Charan Singh, College of Agriculture Dean Sucheta Khokhar said that he was a well wisher of peasants and the downtrodden struggling throughout his life for their uplift and welfare.
She said while Occupying key positions as Chief Minister of UP and Prime Minister, Khokhar said Singh had implemented several economic polices, including abolition of the zamindari system and enactment of the Land Reform Act.
He had also established the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry at the Centre which had proved instrumental in transforming the agricultural economy of the country, she said.
"It was matter of great pride that this university has been christened in the name of the legendary leader. This continuously inspires us to work for the uplift of farming community", the Dean added.
