Police had received information that fake coins of Rs 5 and Rs 10 denomination were being circulated as they were in heavy demand.

"During interrogation, Luthra revealed that he was the kingpin of the gang and was involved in minting and distribution of fake coins in different states and cities. Luthra also said that illicit money earned was used to fund construction of flats," DCP Crime branch S B S Tyagi said.

The trio also revealed that they used to get their consignment from Madhubani in Bihar through Railways, he said, adding that efforts are on to nab three others in the case.
