"This Visa office will be upgraded as the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh this month itself and the Assistant High Commissioner designate, Sakhawat Hussain, has arrived here from Bangladesh High Commission in Madrid," First Secretary of the Visa office here, Md Monirujjaman today said.
He said Sakhawat would join tomorrow and then go to Dhaka and would return here soon.
The exact date of upgradation of the visa office would be officially announced from Dhaka soon, Monirujjaman said.
Government of India had conveyed its concurrence to the upgradation of the Bangladesh visa office in Agartala to an Assistant High Commission in November 2014 last in response to a request made by Bangladesh.
Tripura was also the war headquarters of the liberation soldiers during the war and has a 856-km long border with the neighbouring country.
The visa office issues more than 100 visas to Indians of the North Eastern region for entry into Bangladesh every day.
