Tripura Cent Univ to introduce courses in regional languages
Press Trust of India Agartala The Tripura Central University has decided to introduce courses in regional languages like Kokbarak, Mizo, Garo, Adi and Angami and keep 15 per cent of seats reserved for students from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, university officials said today.
Tripura Governor P B Achariya in a letter yesterday to the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Anjan Kumar Ghosh, appreciated the initiative, officials said.
The Governor in his letter wrote the Prime Minister has announced that development of the country was not possible without the development of the Northeastern region. We have to improve our relations with our neighbouring countries, the officials said.
"Tripura University has taken the first initiative to introduce courses on regional languages and keep reserve seats for the students from neighbouring countries. It is a suitable initiative, which is well-matched with Look-East Act-East policy of the country," Achariya said in his letter.
The Governor, who was also the 'Rector- visitor' of the varsity said, he would appreciate if the university took initiative for exchange programmes with the universities of Bangladesh, Myanmar and China.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Anjan Kumar Ghosh told reporters that four Bangladeshi students were presently studying at Tripura University and 20 more Bangladeshi students have got their names registered for admission in the 2015-16 academic year.
The university has 34 departments and from this current academic year would introduce Bachelor's degree and diploma courses through vocational studies in rubber technology and video production in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation and Tripura government.
