Tripura government is in the process of setting up a university to accommodate certain state-specific academic issues which couldn't be realized due to the regulations of the Tripura Central University.
"Law Department is currently engaged in formulating a specific Act for initiating a State University. The Bill is nearly ready by now. The proposal would be raised for discussion in the next Assembly session following approval from the state cabinet," Education minister Tapan Chakraborty said today.
All 22 government general degree colleges of the state are currently operated under the Tripura Central University.
He said, "It is likely to come up centering the Maharaja Bir Bikram College campus in Agartala. We considered a separate state university as several issues unique for the state couldn't be accommodated due guidelines of the central university," he said.
No theology courses would be kept in the syllabus as the rules of the central university, he said.
