With 50 per cent seat reservations for women, elections for the three-tier gram panchayats in Tripura will be held on July 15, a senior official said today.
Elections for 6,111 seats in 591 gram panchayats, 419 seats in 35 panchayat samitis and 116 seats in 8 zilla parishads would be held with 50 per cent reservation for women, state Election Commissioner Y Kumar said.
Altogether, 1,108,190 electors are eligible to exercise their franchise, he said adding the electors would cast their votes in ballot boxes, instead of electronic voting machine (EVM).
Kumar said the machineries were geared up for the elections and state election commission has asked for 40 companies of central paramilitary forces from the central government for peaceful conduct of the elections.
He said, more than 12,000 security personnel would be obtainable from the state government.
The ruling Left Front had secured absolute majority in 414 gram panchayats out of 591 last year.
