"Tripura is among the seven states selected for the award to be handed over by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on January 15," the sources said.
The other states were Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal.
The Secretary to the Union Ministry of Agriculture Asish Bahuguna in a letter to Tripura Additional Chief Secretary K V Satyanarayan had recently requested to accept the award from the President.
Tripura produced 6.48 lakh tonne of foodgrains in 2009-10, 7.12 lakh tonnes the next year and 7.30 lakh tonne in 2011-12, the sources said.
Tripura received 21 awards from the Centre in the past few years for its achievements in different fields, including 'President's Colour' for containing three-decade-old insurgency in the state.
