Tripura to request PM to lay foundation stone of railway track

Tripura cabinet today decided to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the 15-km long Agartala-Akhaura railway track during his visit to the state this month.
"In the meeting today cabinet of ministers decided to request Prime Minister to lay foundation of stones for Akhaura-Agartala rail track, Agartala-Udaipur National Highway and a five star hotel to be launched jointly by ITDC and Tripura Industrial Development Corporation," state Information minister Bhanu Lal Saha said.
The Prime Minister is likely to visit on November 29 to inaugurate the second unit of 726 mw gas based thermal project at Palatana, Saha said.
The entire cost for laying the track to connect Indian railways with Bangladesh railways through northeastern region would be borne by the Ministry of External Affairs, officials said, adding, the survey for Akhaura-Agartala rail track has been completed.
Saha said the state government also decided to reduce VAT on the Aviation Turbine Fuel or jet fuel by four per cent on the request of the Central government.
"Central government requested us to reduce the VAT on jet fuel. We decided to reduce it from 22 per cent to 18," the minister told reporters.
