TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao paid rich tributes to Jayashankar at a function at the party office here.
Rao, who has been saying that he had received "signals" from the Centre about the imminent formation of separate Telangana state, said he was maintaining "a strategic silence" over the statehood agitation.
Jayashankar, an academician, had vigorously campaigned for the separate state during his lifetime.
Maintaining that Centre had given him an assurance about formation of the state after the Vice Presidential poll, the TRS president had yesterday said if the assurance was not fulfilled, the agitation would be stepped up.
"The Prime Minister had asked us to let peaceful atmosphere prevail (in Andhra Pradesh) for the Centre to take a decision. So, we are waiting patiently. We got an assurance over formation of Telangana after the Vice Presidential poll. If they give Telangana, fine. Otherwise, we will continue fighting for it," he had told a gathering at Nizamabad.
