Speaking on welfare of minorities in the Legislative Assembly, Rao said he has taken up the issue of reservation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who, he said, responded positively to the request.
As the proposed 12 per cent quota would lead to the reservations exceeding the 50 per cent cap, the way to facilitate reservation is by including it in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution as done in the case of Tamil Nadu, he said.
The state legislature had earlier passed a bill increasing quotas for STs and Muslims.
Rao announced several measures for the welfare of minorities, especially for the welfare of Muslim community.
