A truck driver was arrested today in connection with the rape of 17-year-old minor girl in Marshaghai police station jurisdiction in Odisha's Kendrapara district, police said.
The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted on December 8, police said, adding that her elder brother from Daanramuda village had lodged an FIR in this connection belatedly.
Manoj Mallick (32), a truck driver who had criminal antecedents, has been taken into custody. The accused hailed from the same village as that of the victim.
The accused, who had acquaintance with the girl, coercively sexually assaulted her.
"The offender has confessed to the crime," said Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Rabi Narayan Behera.
Though the complaint had alleged that three persons had raped the victim by turn, investigation has found that it was not a case of gang-rape. Two other persons named in the FIR were found innocent and were not connected with the crime, SP Behera said.
