A truck driver was shot dead and the vehicle set on fire by CPI (Maoists) during a 'Jharkhand Bandh' called by it to protest against alleged police atrocities, a senior officer said today.
The group intercepted the truck and shot the driver last night before the vehicle was set ablaze near Aramajhi village on Khunti-Tamar road under Saiko police station of the district, SP Ashwini Kumar Sinha said.
The bandh evoked a mixed response, as shops and business establishments remained open but long-distance buses and commercial vehicles were off the roads, officials said, adding, transportation of bauxite was affected.
