The gearbox of a truck driven by an Indian-origin man here will be analysed by Australian police to ascertain his claim that the device was jammed when he crashed into a car killing four persons.
Jobandeep Gill, 27, ran a stop sign and crashed into a car killing four persons on February 28 this year, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Gill had said that the gearbox had jammed and his truck continued moving towards the intersection where the accident occurred.
The gearbox is yet to be examined, sources said, adding that the accused is currently out on bail.
While four persons died after the car burst into flames, a nine-year-old child was pulled out from the car by a passerby.
Gill, a sub-contractor for a Melbourne-based trucking company, has been charged with four counts of culpable driving causing death, four counts of dangerous driving causing death, one count of reckless conduct endangering life and one count of failing to halt at a stop sign.
