On May 14, two days ahead of the assembly election, three trucks carrying Rs 570 crore were intercepted by poll officials in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu.
RBI later told the Madras High Court in a petition moved by activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy that it was a routine fund transfer under currency management function.
Last month, the Court asked CBI to file a report on a complaint filed by DMK MP TKS Elangovan who sought a probe by the Central agency into the transfer of Rs 570 crore.
"The claims of officials of nationalised banks are on the basis of fake, forged letters, and forged permission from the RBI. They have conspired together, committed an act of forgery, falsification of records besides have abused their positions and power to create movement of "hawala money" and therefore have committed an offence punishable under Prevention of Corruption Act," Elangovan had alleged in his petition.
