Nationwide truckers' strike entered the third day today with the goods vehicles umbrella body ACOGOA claiming that the ongoing strike has a wide impact in the North East as well as West Bengal.
The truckers under All India Confederation of Goods Vehicles Owners Association (ACOGOA) had proceeded on an indefinite nationwide strike on June 18, protesting hike in diesel prices, increase in toll charges and increasing third party insurance premium.
However, another transporters apex body AIMTC, which has called for a nationwide strike from July 20 on the similar issues alleged that the strike was orchestrated by a small section and had no impact.
"North East continues to be on a standstill as it is the only gateway from West Bengal. West Bengal also reports continuation of vehicle stoppages that is at 80 per cent. Not only that, now the adjoining state of Bihar also reports vehicle stoppages," ACOGOA General Secretary R S Bhasin told PTI.
Now estimated 50 per cent of the goods vehicles are participating in the chakka jam, ACGOA claimed.
Both the bodies, ACOGOA and All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), claim membership of over 80 lakh truckers each.
