The test was conducted between 12.00-12.10 pm near INS Angre in Fort area, a Defence spokesperson said.
The Siren and a Digital Electronic Board is part of a system for issuing early warning in case of a tsunami threat in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The siren has been connected to the electronic Display board and will now be remotely controlled by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad. The siren will operate continuously for one minute in case of a possible tsunami threat.
Based on a request by the Indian Navy, system is installed at the Meteorology Office of Western Naval Command by INCOIS, an autonomous organisation under Ministry of Earth & Sciences (MoES), Government of India.
Post successful completion of drill, testing of the Tsunami Warning Siren is planned to be carried out on regular basis between 12.00 - 12.10 pm on 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month commencing November 1.
