Tuki eyes uplifting rural poor in pre-budget review

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has exhorted the rural development and Panchayati Raj departments to integrate all its programmes for the targeted rural populace to derive maximum benefits.
Beginning his series of week-long pre-budget review-cum-consultation meetings with departments here yesterday, Tuki advocated concerted efforts in implementing various flagship programmes like MGNREGA, Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), integrated watershed management programme (IWMP) transparently with the active involvement of the masses for uplifting the life of the rural poor.
He insisted that the work proposals should be approved by the gram sabhas but labour-oriented, income-generating agri/horti/irrigation activities be given priority while the DRDAs, BDOs and panchayats should converge to ensure the MGNREGA funds are judiciously spent, a release from the CMO said here today.
He directed the BDOs for timely uploading of MIS and timely submission of utilisation certificate for obtaining maximum funds from the Centre and advised the department to introduce the system of disbursement of wages through banks in other districts by tying up with banks.
While reviewing the IAY scheme, he asked to help the beneficiaries to construct permanent and user-friendly house to make a visible impact under the rural housing sector.
He advised professional approach in IWMP involving the local populace besides reconstituting the local management committee to achieve its objectives.
On the district planning committees, the CM directed to take corrective measures for effective implementation of decision taken and called for proactive role of the DCs in mentoring and nurturing to make the grass root level democratic institutions serve their purpose.
