Turmeric prices went up by 2.40 per cent to Rs 6,900 per quintal in futures market today as participants built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from spot market on upsurge in demand.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in April month rose by Rs 162, or 2.40 per cent, to Rs 6,900 per quintal with an open interest of 12,815 lots.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in May month contracts traded higher by Rs 124, or 1.84 per cent, to Rs 6,860 per quintal in 2,365 lots.
Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to pick up in demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up turmeric prices at futures trade.
They said some exports enquiries also supported the upmove.
