Turmeric prices were up by 1.76 per cent to Rs 6,240 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, triggered by uptick in domestic as well export demand in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May contract was trading higher by Rs 108, or 1.76 per cent, to Rs 6,240 per quintal with an open interest of 20,300 lots.
Similarly, the spice for June delivery increased by Rs 104, or 1.67 per cent, to Rs 6,340 per quintal in 3,230 lots.
Analysts said, fresh positions created by traders following upsurge in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up turmeric prices at futures trade.
