At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May rose by Rs 60, or 0.73 per cent, to Rs 8,304 per quintal, with an open interest of 6,260 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in far-month June edged up by Rs 16, or 0.20 per cent, to Rs 8,160 per quintal in 26,520 lots.
Analysts said traders created fresh positions due to pick up in demand in the spot market against tight stocks on positions on restricted supplies from producing regions mainly led to the rise in turmeric prices at futures trade.
