The forest department today destroyed the tusks and nails of elephants and leopard by burning it in the jungles.
This was done to create awareness among the people that these things have no value, for which a lot of poaching incidents took place, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) Director, Srinivasa Reddy said.
By destroying the animals' body parts, it can be made clear to the public that these were not meant for sale and thus the incidents of animal killing may come down, he said.
A total of 20 female elephant tusks, measuring 5.5 cm to 31 cm in length, 18 nails and four teeth of leopard were destroyed, Reddy added.
