Tussle between Bangalore corporators and KSCA intensifies

"We have seized the truck and sent the details to the joint commissioner who will take a decision on the penalty," Bommanahalli sub-division superintendent engineer Srikantegowda told PTI here today.

Srikantegowda said the truck had dumped around five to six tons of garbage on the roadside on Monday.

He said KSCA has violated norms of removing garbage as it cannot hire a private contractor to collect and dump garbage anywhere in the city.

The tussle between Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (city corporation) and KSCA heated up after the former refused to remove garbage in the stadium complex after their demand for 450 complimentary passes to watch IPL matches was not met.

Corporators had returned 250 complimentary passes offered to them by the KSCA.

After KSCA outsourced the garbage clearance work to a private contractor, BBMP personnel kept an eye over movement of garbage trucks moving out of the stadium, apparently to check where the garbage was being dumped.

KSCA, on its part, maintained that it disposed of garbage at a designated location near Whitefield.

"There is no case to penalise us on this issue," said a KSCA official.

Deputy Mayor S Harish alleged that KSCA, which has its own garbage clearance system, was not dumping it in designated areas.

Moreover, KSCA has to shell out Rs 10-15 lakh for every match towards advertisement tax and garbage clearance, which they haven't as yet, he said.

Corporator Sampath Raj accused KSCA of misusing the stadium by sub-letting it to a different person to host a match.

A similar controversy had erupted during the India-England World Cup match in February 2011, which was debated in the State Assembly. The government had then assured members that KSCA authorities would be summoned but no action was taken.
