TV series on women scientists to be telecast on DD Bharti

With the aim to bring living women legends in science to the centre stage, Vigyan Prasar has produced a 13-episode interview series - 'Scientifically Yours' - on them which would be telecast on DD Bharti from July 19.
Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous body under the Centre's department of science and technology, today said that it has produced the series on women scientists "who helped in shaping science in India", in collaboration with the National Institute for Science Communication and Resources (NISCAIR).
"The series on Indian women scientists is a unique one as this section of society has not yet been sufficiently covered in the country. This is an effort to bring the living women legends in science on to the centre stage with their achievements and contributions...," according to a release.
It said the series, to be telecast every Saturday morning, would help create role models for students and researchers especially for girl students and motivate them in pursuing careers in science and technology.
Vigyan Prasar said the women scientists have been identified from various fields of research such as Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Chemical sciences.
Some of the eminent scientists who have been covered are Indira Nath, a pioneer in the field of medical sciences who made major contributions in treatment of Leprosy; Bimla Butti, an eminent physicist who worked in the field of Plasma Physics; Kasturi Datta, pioneer in Cellular and Molecular Biology working in JNU; Manju Sharma, renowned biotechnologist from DBT; and Chandrima Shaha, profound endocrinologist.
Others include Chitra Sarkar, an eminent Neuropathologist from AIIMS; Vibha Tandon, renowned scientist working in field of Medicinal Chemistry at JNU; Rupamanjari Ghosh, Quantum physicist from JNU; Shashi Wadhwa, renowned medical professional; and Sunita Saxena, an eminent scientist from ICMR who works in the field of Pathology.
