Apart from it, telecom service provider Bharti Airtel Limited has been directed to pay Rs 2 lakh and presenters of the show -- Sajid Khan and Javed Jaffrey -- Rs 1 lakh each as punitive damages.
In his complaint, Kamaldeep Singh of Kotli Nangal village here said that Dakshin Media Gaming Solution Pvt. Ltd. organised the show in which he downloaded a ticket on payment of Rs 10 from his prepaid Airtel connection.
Singh said the show was shown on Zee channel at 12 noon on November 13, 2005 and he hit the jackpot and was declared winner of the Rs 11 lakh prize money.
He claimed he completed all the formalities but the company failed to hand him the prize money.
Sanjay Garg, president of the forum, observed that the respondent company had telecast the show by "alluring and inviting innocent viewers" to play the game.
"Crores of rupees were collected by the organisers in connivance with Airtel Limited as the price for each ticket was Rs 10 which was deducted from the account of the consumers," the forum said.
Holding the organising company guilty of "unfair trade practice", the forum directed it to pay the prize money along with interest to the complainant.
