Twenty injured in lathicharge

Twenty persons were injured in a lathicharge by police to disperse a group of farmers and also workers of the Puducherry Cooperative Sugar mill who held agitations infront of the mill with separate demands.
While the farmers demanded payment of arrears for the sugarcane sold to the mill, the workers wanted that the management pay them bonus for Diwali and also salaries due to them for last few months.
Police said that they resorted to the lathicharge as it was conducted without obtaining permission.
