"The accused Shyam Babu Kori from Govindnagar and Brij Kishore Yadav from Jalaun used to call mobile phone users informing them that their number has won prizes such as maruti car, motorcycle, cash prizes, gold jewellery in lucky draws of the company.
"They asked people who fell in their trap to deposit Rs 17,000 as the tax for their prize in a bank account and then withdrew the cash from the ATM," police spokesperson said.
The duo was arrested after Santosh Tiwari, a victim of the fraud, registered a complaint yesterday with Juhi police station against the gang.
The inquiry is on to get information about other gang members. He said that police is also interrogating a woman involved with the gang.
Only after the arrest of other gang members, the exact amount of money duped by the gang will be ascertained, he added.
