Police today claimed to have solved the case of theft of Rs 3.67 lakh from an ATM of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) with the arrest of two people.
Neelesh Pathrod (25), sanitary worker with PNB's Gumasta Nagar branch, and his accomplice Mahendra alias Monu (30) allegedly stole Rs 3.67 lakh from the ATM at Aerodrome road five days ago, Inspector Baljeet Singh said.
A part of the ATM remained open when the cash was loaded into it on March 11. Pathrod on March 13 went to check his balance at the ATM and spotted this, he added.
Pathrod and his accomplice returned to the ATM at 11.30 PM and removed Rs 3.67 lakh cash, Singh said.
The accused had covered their faces with clothes to conceal their identities, but removed them to tie up the cash while fleeing and were captured on CCTV camera at the ATM, he said.
There was no security guard posted outside the ATM and therefore the police were also investigating possible laxity on the part of bank officers, Singh said.
